Duties of Men in Ancient Egypt

It is believed that, in the ancient world women were almost treated equal to men.
But even in ancient Egypt, which is one of the oldest civilizations, it was always women who did the household work and men used to teach their young boys how to do business and trade.
So, the role of men in ancient Egypt was clearly defined as the breadwinners of the family.
Women from high class society were given a better place in the very first dynasty by being allowed to build tombs of their own after their death with their own statues.
As ages passed, men became the heirs of the family, and women started depending on men socially and economically.
Women were often shown in the form of group statues from the fifth dynasty.
Women started taking care of the basic needs of the family.
From the excavations done in Egypt, the wives in the Middle and Old kingdoms are seen doing household work like making food and serving their husbands.
Although the society was male dominated, women had a bit freedom.
During the period when the Greeks started establishing homes in Egypt in the first millennium BCE, women lost all their freedom, and men became the focal point of a family and the society.
Egyptian women never enjoyed the freedom as many people today think, though they had more freedom when compared to women in other societies.
They were restricted to choose their profession.
They were mostly home makers, very few became priests, entertainers and hardly a few were rulers.
Though it is said that women were restricted doing household work, even the average man in the ancient Egypt did not have a lot of professional options.
Nonetheless, when you look at the role of men in ancient Egypt, it is clear that men were the ones earning members of the family.
