Make note of how the saliva looks.
After 15 minutes or so, check the water again and note how the saliva looks.
Healthy saliva will float on top of the water almost invisible, while the infected saliva will sink to the bottom of the glass, become cloudy, or have string-like tentacles hanging from the top of the glass.
