- 1). Confirm that the electrical cooktop power cord is properly connected to the wall socket and that the power is turned on at the fuse box to operate the electric ignition that lights the gas flame. Operate the downdraft feature by pressing the control button to "On," or pressing and turning the control knob counterclockwise to one of the "On" positions.
- 2). Decrease the amount of time it takes to boil water and other liquids on the cooktop by turning off the downdraft fan feature until after liquids have come all the way up to the boil. Press the downdraft control button to "Off" or turn the control knob to the "Off" position, depending on which control system your cooktop model has.
- 3). Press the downdraft control button or turn the control knob counterclockwise to a lower downdraft fan speed to prevent the gas burner flames from being pulled toward the downdraft vent. Reduce the high or maximum setting by pressing the button or turning the knob to a middle or low setting.
- 4). Correct poor venting downdraft (i.e., reduced sucking capacity) by cleaning the downdraft filter that may be clogged with grease or dust. Crack open a window in the area, when operating the downdraft vent, to allow fresh air flow and decrease the pressure vacuum in a well-sealed home that may make it difficult for the downdraft to work at maximum capacity.
- 5). Prevent scratches to the cooktop surface glass by using only nonabrasive cleansers and cleaning cloths or sponges, and refrain from setting cookware anywhere on the cooktop but atop the enameled gas grates.
- 6). Unclog gas-burner flame holes, on a cold inactive cooktop, by inserting the pointed tip of a sewing needle or the end of an unfolded paperclip into each of the flame holes that ring the burners. This can remove any buildup or debris that may be clogging them and obstructing or partially obstructing the flame.
- 7). Call for service assistance from your gas installer when a gas cooktop running on liquid propane (LP) has flames that are completely yellow in color (as opposed to blue or orange with slightly yellow tips), as this can signal an improper mixture of air and gas, and the ratio must be corrected for proper and safe functioning of the cooktop.
