Many baby shower hostesses create activities that relate to the upcoming or newborn baby. Some showers features a diaper-decorating activity to add a humorous touch to the party. Shower attendees can decorate the diapers using their own ideas or decorate based on the hostess's predefined guidelines. Announce diaper-decorating activities with caution as some of the guests may associate the term with dirty diapers. - Give each party attendee their own diaper to decorate. Prepare a table with assorted art supplies, such as stickers, ribbons, paint pens and colored adhesive tape rolls. Each guest may use her imagination and design her diaper to her liking. At the end of the activity, the guest of honor can give out prizes to the best diaper designs.
- Send each party guest a diaper with the shower invitation. Place a card inside that describes a theme, and instructs the guest to decorate the diaper according to the theme listed. Themes may include Hollywood, Eighties, Rock Star or Super Hero. Each guest must present her themed diaper with her gift at the shower. Use this activity if you want a fun diaper activity but do not want the decorating supplies to make a mess at the shower.
- Ask each party guest to think of a funny diaper-related message and write the message onto a diaper. For example, a guest may write on the diaper "It's Daddy's turn," or "Open at your own risk." Guests may also draw pictures on the diaper to match the saying. For example, if the guest writes, "It's Daddy's turn," she may draw a picture of a male stick figure to represent "Daddy." Use this idea if you want to focus more on humor and less on artistic ability.
- A diaper cake is a common gift given to the mother-to-be at a baby shower. Diaper cakes are diapers stacked in a decorative manner to resemble a cake. Instead of preparing a diaper cake ahead of time, turn this into a shower activity. Break party attendees into teams and give each team a big box of diapers, tape, ribbon and large round platter. Each team must try to build a diaper cake using their supplies. At the end of the event, the guest of honor may give out a prize to the team with the best cake.
