Homemade Bug Repellent

    Citrus Spray

    • 1). Remove the peel from 1 orange with a sharp knife. Cut the peel into small pieces.

    • 2). Place the peel, 4 or 5 mint leaves and 4 or 5 sage leaves into a large bowl. Pour 2 cups of water into the bowl. Cover the bowl with a piece of cloth and leave it overnight.

    • 3). Hold a strainer over another bowl. Pour the ingredients in the bowl over the strainer. Keep the liquid and throw out the mint leaves, sage leaves and orange peels.

    • 4). Pour 2 cups of witch hazel into the bowl. Stir the ingredients.

    • 5). Pour the witch hazel mixture into a plastic spray bottle. Spray the mixture onto you and your children's skin each time you leave the home, especially in the evening when the mosquitoes are more active.

    Cayenne Spray

    • 1). Pour 2 tbsp. of cayenne pepper into an empty spray bottle.

    • 2). Place 2 to 3 drops of liquid dish soap into the bottle. Avoid dish soaps with fragrance, which could attract insects to you.

    • 3). Fill the bottle three-quarters full with cool water. Place the cap onto the bottle and shake it vigorously. Allow the mixture to sit for 24 hours.

    • 4). Shake the mixture before spraying it directly at the insects.
