Leather String Crafts

    Jewelry

    • Leather string can be used to create handmade jewelry items, such as necklaces, bracelets and anklets. Three strands of leather string can be braided using the same technique that is used to braid hair. If you have only one strand, you can use the single braid technique to braid the string. This method involves forming a loop that is the length of the necklace or bracelet you want to make. Insert the long string end through the loop, twist the loop to create another small loop and place the end of the leather string through this loop. Repeat this process until the entire loop is braided.

    Zipper Pull

    • A simple yet practical zipper pull can be made from a small length of leather string. Simply cut a piece of string that is 3 inches long. Fold the leather string in half. Insert the string loop down through the hole in the front of the zipper pull. Insert the two loose ends through the loop hole and pull the string tightly to secure the knot.

    Cell Phone Band

    • A cell phone band can be attached to a keyring or necklace to conveniently hold a cell phone in place. To create a cell phone band, cut a single piece of string that is 10 inches long. Locate the spot that is 4 inches from the end of the string and fold it back 2 inches. Then fold the rest of the string back in the other direction. Wrap the end of string three times around the middle of the folds you just created. Insert the string end through the top loop. Pull the bottom loop down and pull both ends of the leather string tightly to complete the knot.

    Bag Strap

    • Leather string can be used to transform an old purse or clutch bag into a stylish shoulder bag. To create a bag strap, make two small holes on either side of your old purse. Cut a piece of leather string that is long enough to create a shoulder strap. Insert the leather string through one of the holes and tie the end of the string in a double knot on the inside of the bag. Repeat with the other hole to finish the bag.
