Side Mount Tank Handle Installation

    • 1). Remove the toilet tank cover.

    • 2). Disconnect the chain from the old trip lever. The clip that holds the chain in place on the lever can often be removed by hand. However, combination pliers work well for the task should they be required.

    • 3). Slide the old side-mounted handle and lever out from the toilet tank.

    • 4). Install the new lever into the tank hole. Attach the retaining nut and tighten counterclockwise with lock-jaw pliers.

    • 5). Connect the flush valve chain clip to the new trip lever. Place the clip in the same lever hole position as it was on the old lever.

    • 6). Flush the toilet to check the new tank handle and lever chain. The chain should be slightly slack when the flush valve is closed.

    • 7). Replace the tank cover.
