Wedding Etiquette: Who Pays for What?

    Rehearsal Dinner

    • Traditionally, the groom's parents pay for the rehearsal dinner held the evening before the wedding.

    Reception

    • As tradition goes, the reception is paid for by the bride's parents as a way to give their daughter away.

    Miscellaneous Wedding Needs

    • The bride's parents are also traditionally responsible for paying for the wedding flowers, the decorations, photography, the cake and anything else associated with the wedding celebration.

    Honeymoon

    • The groom usually pays for and makes all the arrangements for the honeymoon. In some cases, the groom's parents will pitch in and help with the honeymoon costs.

    Alternatives

    • Traditionally speaking, the bride and groom pay for very little for their wedding. However, it is becoming increasingly common for the bride and groom to pay for a significant portion of their wedding, if not all of it, as a couple.
