Another way of expressing mullets is camaro haircuts. A very famous haircut was the Richard Marx 80s mullet haircut. There is a variety of different styles and this one is referred to as the 'Right here waiting style'. This is named after a famous song of Richard Marx.
One wears hair short in the front and long in the back and on the sides. Men who are known as party animals, like to wear this style. The short in front is for work and meetings and the long at the back is for weekends and partying. During meetings at work, one would tie it up into a ponytail. The ponytail would be placed inside a ponytail catcher.
The nineteen eighties was the decade that these were most popular. Patrick Swayze, Michael Bolton, Mel Gibson, The Wall Rats and Billy Ray Cyrus were all famous for wearing this style. Today Hulk Hogan of the Movie 'Rocky' fame still wears this cut.
The reason it is referred to as Camaro, is that men who drove cars of the same name seemed to sport this hairstyle. This does not mean that other men cannot wear this style. The styles are varied in that it could be shaggy, curly and smooth.
Eventually women latched onto this style as well. Big shiny earrings, tights and a bright eye shadow really suited this style. Mothers soon transferred this style to their babies as well. This did not go down to well with the more conservative crowd.
Even now, the style is still popular albeit in a different way. Today the there is what is known as the reverse mullet. Celebrities like Zac Ephron wear long hair in the front and short at the back. The style is smooth and length is to the brow and swept to the side. To add some mystique to the look one could add wisps. Women still wear the original mullet as well. Often the colors are a little wild and there is teased shaggy or smooth.
