Sandhya woke up early everyday in the morning and continue to her daily morning chores. She would rush to the river with a water pot, with the basket she was gifted by one of her aunty that she would used to carry her toiletries to be used before fetching the water.
The water's so cool in the early morning unlike the warmness during the day. €I wished if my life continue as usual like the calmness, coolness and freshness of this water for the whole of my life€. The itching cold water never seem to hurt Sandhya's feet, it rather soothes her previous days tired feet. Every pore on her skin can feel the cold water trying to infiltrate in her skin to suck the budding blood. She would sometimes laugh at herself and wink her eyes in bewilderness. She got lost with the fondness of the water almost every day until she heard the sound of her siblings playing around the nearby screeching sound on the road. She realized she's already late for breakfast and study.
€I know I don't belong to a well to do family. But I never admit myself belong to a poor family!€ She'd tell her friends sometimes to show her confidence that her parents will be one day become a respectable family in the town.
As ages added to Sandhya's life, the result of her secondary school examination came out and she passed in second division. Everyone in the family was happy about Sandhya's result but only one.
- I don't see any sincerity to this girl in her studies but let's see how far and well she can continue.
- That was not fare dad. I can become an educated person.
She actually would love cry out loud and weep deeply with this scornful support from her own father.
Yet, the only energy that supports her life was warmness and fond love she gets from the river water. Wondered sometimes why on this earth she was being born.
Sandhya's life seems to get a standstill she found one morning the river water polluted with mud and planktons all over as the river is soon to be diverted to a new direction for irrigation. Her heart ache and all her might stood against her. She has no strength to face this she thought.
- Daddy, I want to continue my study in a city. One of my friends is studying in a charity college where you can pay minimal fees.
She requests her father one day to let her go to a distant city to continue her study. Her father at first doesn't agree in her idea of staying and studying in a distant place but the thought of paying minimal fees let him gave his approval.
The first year of her college went on smoothly and she fares out well in the annual exam. It was in her second year that she started having relationship with James, the smart young lad from her neighboring town.
- How much do you love me James!
- Why do you ask that question Sandhya. Do you still can't believe that I love you to death. Come what may, I'll love you ever. You look so beautiful your smiles always take my breath away.
- It's not that I don;t trust you. I'm just worried if you leave me, I'm not sure what could happen to me. Love you so much. You always appeared in front of me when I close my eyes to get to sleep. And when I manage to fall asleep, you seem to be calling me always. I wonder if this is what they called love or is this just an magic of a love spell.
The river missed the charming voices of Sandhya, the time they played together rolling on each other, whisper to her ear the enchanting chants of nature, prick on her silver skin with the icy cold current during early winter mornings, serve her thirst and embrace her luke warm in springs. Wished if only it hadn't known her, she wouldn;t had been missed so much.
