"The Sims Deluxe" is as updated version of the best-selling PC game "The Sims." It was released in September of 2002. The deluxe edition includes extra features from the "Livin' Large" expansion pack, as well as a creator tool that allows you to make your own characters in the game. - The three most valuable commodities in "The Sims Deluxe"--especially early in the game--are time, money and mood. Your Sims' mood can be gauged by checking the green bars at the bottom of the screen, and your available funds are displayed in the bottom-left corner, underneath the in-game clock. Everything you do in the game should be geared toward satisfying your Sims' mood in one way or another. Taking out the trash can, for instance, will increase the characters' "Comfort" bar. However, this also takes up time that could be spent eating or socializing. Save that time by investing in the basic $30 trash can. This is the only item in the game that doesn't depreciate in value, so when it fills with trash, sell it for $30, which will increase the Sims' "Comfort" bar without expending time or money.
- To give your Sims something new to talk about--and to increase their "Social" bar as well-- get one of them abducted by aliens. Buy the "Horrorwitz Telescope" accessory for $2,100 from the game's "Buy" section and put it in your backyard. Wait until around 2:30 a.m., and then have a Sim use the telescope. Keep clicking on the telescope to return to the item until the Sim has gained around six points in their "Fun" bar. Soon after this, an unearthly light will bathe the Sim and they will be abducted by aliens, only to be returned safely around daybreak.
- Two glitches in the game allow you to make money fast without working for it. If you refuse to allow your Sims to do any cleaning, their house will become infested with cockroaches. This will lower their "Comfort" bar. However, if you click the cockroaches and choose "Sell," the game will mistake them for a Virtual Reality set, which can be sold for $460 each. Another money-making scheme involves buying a fireworks launcher for $2,000. Place the launcher outside and click it to launch a rocket. Pause the game and click the rocket, which you can sell for $5,000.
