- 1). Decide on the tablecloths you want to use. Anniversary party tables should be covered in fabric to set off the decorations properly. Pick out material that the couple will like. Try to tie in the material with the colors being used at the party or as part of a large theme. Red evokes Valentine's Day celebrations. White calls to mind a bridal gown. Certain cultures may prefer to use specific colors or to avoid them because of negative connotations. Consult with the anniversary couple first if unsure.
- 2). Make a base for the decorations. Start with a tray to hold objects. If possible tie in the tray with the anniversary being celebrated. For example, silver is a traditional wedding gift to celebrate a 25th wedding anniversary. If you have the budget use actual silver. If not spray paint a wooden or plastic tray with silver paint. Have couple's name chased into the metalwork or write it on the tray with markers or paint.
- 3). Add a vase. A vase can hold objects that are part of the arrangement such as flowers or candy. Use a glass vase for a large floral arrangement. Use metal vases to set off smaller arrangements effectively.
- 4). Tie a ribbon around the vase. Use a ribbon that matches or contrasts with the tablecloth well. For example if you are using yellow tablecloths use bright yellow ribbons or go for contrast with lavender or blue ribbons.
- 5). Fill the vase with material to keep flowers fresh. Florist's foam is widely available and will help keep any flowers being used fresher longer.
- 6). Add flowers to the arrangement. Use flowers that pick up the tablecloth or work well with the dress of the woman being honored. You may also want to use flowers that call to mind the original bridal bouquet she and her bridesmaids carried on her wedding day. Use several different kinds of flowers.
- 7). Add detail. Scatter flower petals on the tabletop tray. Place candles at each end of the tray. Cut out bits of ribbon and artfully arrange them in the corners of the tray.
