How to Test a Washing Machine Timer

    • 1). Unplug the unit from the wall.

    • 2). Slide a putty knife under the left and right hand side of the control panel. Lift up on the panel and slide the knife further to press down the tabs holding the panel in place. Pull the panel back to expose the inside of the panel.

    • 3). Pull off the knob from the front of the timer.

    • 4). Disconnect the wires from the timer using a pair of pliers, holding the wire by the connectors. Look for burnt connections.

    • 5). Set a multimeter to the continuity setting and press the probes to each connector. If you do not receive continuity when the timer is turned to the rinse setting, the timer needs to be replaced.
