- 1). Cease smoking if you are a smoker yourself. Your partner will not take you seriously if you are a smoker trying to convince him to stop.
- 2). Lead by example. Give up a bad habit of your own, so your partner will not feel as if she is going through cessation alone.
- 3). Remind your partner of all the health risk that come along with smoking. Heart disease, stroke and cancer are all risks of smoking.
- 4). Convince your partner that he will have all the support and tools needed to quit. Provide your partner with support-group information. Tell your partner about nicotine alternatives that allay withdrawal symptoms.
- 5). Buy nicotine-alternative products such as gum, lozenges and the patch. Showing action may move your partner to act.
- 6). Engage more in other habits and activities with your partner. Staying active will preoccupy your partner, keeping his mind off of smoking.
- 7). Get your family and friends involved. Ask your family to get more involved with your partner.
