Golf fitting is an integral part to every golfer's best game and most golfers avoid getting fit and just buy something off the rack or eBay that they heard was good.
Why do people not get fit for golf clubs? Fitting is a somewhat new item to the entire golf equipment arsenal and some people are afraid of getting fit.
Some people believe they are not good enough to get fit and can just buy any set until they get better.
The sad truth to that is the fact that they would get much better much quicker if they got fit for correct clubs in the first place.
Many people are embarrassed and nervous of what the fitter may think of their swing.
I can tell you its kinda like a doctor that has seen it all.
Nothing surprises a professional fitter.
They don't care what your swing looks like, they are watching but analyzing what would help you the entire time you are hitting balls.
Price scares a lot of people.
How much is a fitting? Fittings are often free with a club purchase but many fitters charge $100-$200 a fitting.
Do not fret because even if they charge for a fitting they are actually saving you money.
How? Well, say you buy the new super duper driver off the rack at your local Dickheads superstore.
Then you can't hit it worth a hill of beans because the shaft is all wrong or the length is too long.
Hint, many drivers are 46 inches now and that is garbage, you will struggle trying to hit the sweet spot and actually lose distance.
Now your $400 driver quickly becomes a $600 driver as you replace the garbage stock shaft with one you think works better because somebody on a Golf Forum said it was the best.
Bingo, you could have gotten fit perfectly the first time and playing better golf weeks ago for less money.
Ask any local golf shop what their biggest source of income is and they will tell you re-shafting.
Do yourself a huge favor and get fit by a Professional Fitter.
What makes a good fitter? A good fitter will have some tools available to him.
A launch monitor to get your spin rates, launch angle, smash factor etc.
They will have a loft/lie machine to check your current set up and make adjustments to fitting clubs as needed.
Many have a frequency machine to check your current clubs shaft flexes.
This will shock you to find out your club may say stiff on the shaft but it is really a senior flex.
Seen it many times.
They will have a lie board, impact tape, lie tape, and many,many different shafts of different lengths and multiple different head types from forged blades to big cavity backs, many lofts and cc sizes of drivers etc.
A professional fitter will never sell knockoff or clone clubs.
A Pro Fitter will never fit on-line.
Remember, the most important piece of equipment in the fitting center is the fitter himself.
You are relying on his/her expertise to fit you in the best sticks possibly.
The final piece of the puzzle is the building of your clubs.
If he/she is going to build them make sure they frequency match the shafts to preferably plus or minus 1 c.

match the clubs, weight sort every shaft head and grip, adjust loft/lie to your specs and you should be good.
Most club fitters cannot get this done for you and it does you no good to get fit and have the clubs not built to your correct specs.
