- 1). Lay the gun down on a flat surface with the barrel pointed in a safe direction. Always check to make sure the gun is unloaded before starting to work on it.
- 2). Apply light oil by pouring it onto a rag and then wiping the oil-soaked rag over the rusted area.
- 3). Take a very fine grade of steel wool and gently rub on the rusted area.
- 4). Wipe the rubbed area with a clean cloth, rag or paper towel and check for signs of rust. If there are still signs of visible rust, then repeat the steps of applying oil, lightly rubbing with steel wool and wiping with a clean cloth.
- 5). Once all signs of rust have been removed, then apply a thin coating of oil to the entire barrel of the gun to protect the metal. Wipe off any excess oil build-up with a clean towel.
