1990 - HITEN launch

Japan launches their first lunar probe named HITEN. The small satellite later entered lunar orbit.


1986 - Uranus flyby

The Voyager 2 spacecraft makes its closest approach (81.593 km) to the planet Uranus.

1958 - Project Zeta announcement

English nuclear scientists announce the success of Project Zeta and achieved the first man-made nuclear fusion reaction. Project Zeta was attempting to create fusion by heating deuterium to approximately 5,000,000 °C. Further investigation of the data showed that no fusion actually took place and caused a significant setback to English nuclear science.

1925 - Solar Eclipse filmed


Total solar eclipse filmed by US Navy. A motion picture was taken of the total solar eclipse from the US Naval dirigible, U.S.S. Los Angeles off the coast of Long Island, NY.


1868 - John Davy died.


John Davy was an English chemist and doctor who was the first to produce phosgene gas.


1839 - Darwin joins Royal Society

Charles Darwin, naturalist and author of Origin of Species is elected as a member of the Royal Society.
