- 1). Examine the calendar to determine which times throughout the year you are going to make a concerted effort to boost school spirit. You may wish to plan events around major football and basketball games, holidays and other community events.
- 2). Recruit and select volunteers to help with the spirit-building effort. Getting students and faculty members involved by having them work on a specific theme or task creates a sense of community and mutual identity. Sharing a common goal brings large groups of people together around a common cause.
- 3). Raise funds for major events throughout the school year. While students are earning the money necessary for dances and other extracurricular activities they are developing a sense of mutual responsibility. The fundraising project gets everyone working together on the same team and working on behalf of the school.
- 4). Promote community awareness in the school. One way to boost school spirit is to get the rest of the community involved or at least behind the major events that the school participates in. By having the students and faculty members volunteer within the community, you can make the school more visible to the rest of the members of the community. Likewise, various members of the community may also be inspired by the volunteer spirit of the students, and they may provide support or help during school functions.
- 5). Hold pep rallies before major sporting events. Getting the sports teams and cheerleaders involved to hold a pep rally in front of the entire student body can help to ensure a large turnout at sporting events. Students will feel a sense of camaraderie and the need to support their fellow students in their athletic or other extracurricular endeavors. Instruct the cheerleaders to lead the crowd in common and popular chants and cheers in order to get the crowd riled up and ready to scream and shout later at the game.
