All About Anxiety Disorders

One of the most common of all the anxiety problems is OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder).
OCD is made up of obsessions and compulsions.
The obsessions are thoughts that are impossible to stop, while the compulsions are physical habits that you feel compelled to make.
Most people with OCD use the obsessions and compulsions to distract themselves when they're feeling anxious and to prevent panic attacks, and this dependence on the obsessions and compulsions to prevent anxiety is what often leads to OCD getting out of control.
It's also the reason why OCD is such a hard anxiety disorder to overcome.
Another very common anxiety disorder is social anxiety disorder.
This is often confused with shyness, but the two are very different things.
Shyness is a normal, healthy character trait, and is not something that needs to be overcome.
Social anxiety, on the other hand, is a debilitating mental disorder that can lead to a significantly lower quality of life, with sufferers often unable to leave their house for many months at a time.
The primary fear for someone with social anxiety disorder is talking to people, and it is this fear that will often prevent them from going out or putting themselves in any situation where social interaction may occur.
Health anxiety is another anxiety disorder that is becoming increasingly common.
It is sometimes referred to as hypochondria, but both terms describe exactly the same condition.
Health anxiety is an anxiety disorder where the sufferer becomes obsessed and distracted by their own state of health and any physical symptoms they may be experiencing at the time.
Someone with health anxiety will fear that every symptom, no matter how small, is the sign of a terrible illness.
In many cases, someone with this anxiety disorder will research their symptoms on the internet in an attempt to diagnose themselves.
This habit, often referred to as cyberchondria, typically leads to increased fears and anxiety.
Agoraphobia is also a common anxiety disorder, although many people fail to realise this.
Another misconception about agoraphobia is that it's simply a fear of leaving your home, but that's not the case.
Agoraphobia would be much better described as the fear of something unpleasant happening when you're in a place where it would be hard to deal with.
In fact, most people with agoraphobia do not fear leaving their home.
Instead, they fear that they will have a panic attack whilst out in public, and the embarrassment that an attack in public would cause is what prevents someone with agoraphobia from going out.
