On November 18th, 2004 I found myself pleasantly cruising Montezuma road in San Diego where I was heading to a close friends house to visit.
The breeze was cool and the sky was clear.
It was a quiet night, with an eerie feel and unfortunately, I was not alone.
At 11:00pm a truck pulled out in front of me while I was passing through the intersection.
Police noted that the drunk driver did not see my headlights coming up the road when he chose to run the red light.
For a moment life stood still, but I felt helpless and was unable to avoid the accident from happening.
At roughly 60 mph I slammed on my brakes but at that point it was too late and I had no choice but to smash into the side of the truck.
On impact I broke both of my hands and shattered both of my arms in half.
I flew 70 feet through the air to land on the back of my head and back.
I thank God that I was wearing my Arai Rx-7 and a jacket; otherwise I would be nothing but a mere statistic! This proper protection saved me from possible head and neck injuries.
I was conscious through the entire accident so I was able to help the medical staff help diagnose my injuries.
Unfortunately the driver thought it was not necessary to see if I was alive and fled the scene.
My life was changed forever, I believe the accident happened for a reason and I can now tell you the story and hopefully impress upon you the importance and safety aspect of not only proper protection, but also brighter lighting systems.
As noted above, the officer said this misfortune might have been avoided had the driver been able to see me.
I have no doubt that if I would have had HID's on my bike, he would have seen me coming and not ran the light.
After all, hindsight is 20/20 and I am not mad.
I urge you to please do everything you can to increase your safety and visibility for you and vehicles around you to ensure that you avoid accidents and arrive home safely.
Since the accident, I wanted to do something to help avoid this from happening to anyone else.
In order to do so, I started a business specializing in hid xenon conversion kits for motorcycles.
This new cutting edge technology is also better for the bike, running 30% more efficient consuming less power.
This upgrade will result in 300% more output enabling you to see further, wider and make sure others see you as well.
It is a win-win all the way around, and for half of a candy bar a day, the benefits outweigh the costs.
Take the proactive approach so you do not have to have a $140,000 lesson like I did.
I do not want this to happen to anyone else.
If these lights help save one life, than all the hard work and effort is more than worth it.
