- The Klipsch K52 horn has a coil-and-diaphragm design. In this common system of horn design, the diaphragm reproduces high frequency sound into the slender end of a resonating chamber, which has a conical shape. This cone-shaped horn warms sounds and acts like a natural amplifier to distribute the sound across a wider range in a room.
- The Klipsch K52 horn is 4 3/8 inches in diameter. Much of this material, however, is composed of a plastic and steel casing that contains screw holes and resonating material. The speaker's actual voice coil is 1 1/2 inches across. Although all components in a speaker are supposed to work in concert to recreate sound, the voice coil is the part that compresses air into waveforms that reproduce sound.
- Impedance is a measure of electrical resistance measured in ohms, which describes the amount of electricity it takes an amplifier to power a load. Ohm's Law states that higher impedance means lower voltage. Because of this inverse relationship, higher-end speakers, including the K52, operate at a higher impedance. The K52 has a 16-ohm impedance, which is about as high as any speaker. In other words, a low voltage amplifier can push adequate current through the K52.
- The K52 mid-range horn was a long-standing fixture in Klipsch loudspeakers and was installed in the company's speakers during the five years from 1981 through 1986. Its primary deployment was in the company's high-end Cornwall series of speakers, which have been a cornerstone of the Klipsch brand since its introduction in 1952. At more than 2 feet wide and nearly 3 feet tall, the Cornwall cabinets were large installations, designed to optimize sound replication.
