Safety Tips for Face Painting

Kids love having their faces painted on any occasion. They want to look like their favourite superheroes or characters at a birthday party. They love to dress up as scary monsters and complete the ensemble with face painting at Halloween. But kids are at more of a risk then adults are when involved in such activities. So the painter has to take necessary precautions when painting the faces of children.

Safety Tips

The painter needs to remember some simple but crucial tips which will keep the child from any harm while getting his/her face painted.

1. Cleanliness

Most important fact to remember while painting the faces of children is to keep you, the supplies and your stall clean. Wash your hands thoroughly before starting and use hand sanitizers after finishing with each kid.

2. Supplies within Reach

Make sure that everything that is required, all the artist's paint supplies and necessities, are within your reach. So you won't have to leave your station frequently and leave a child unattended.

3. Right Paint

Use the right kind of paint for face painting. Paint that is not meant to be used on skin can have harmful effects on a child's skin like rashes or irritation. Use non-toxic water based paints to paint the children's faces.

4. Comfortable Child

Make children comfortable while you are painting their faces – make them understand that they cannot move while you are working. They can get scratched or paint can get in their eyes if they move.

5. Your own Comfort

You also have to watch for your own comfort. Have a clear space and seat your safe comfortably. The child faces the risk of getting scratched or poked if you are in an awkward position.

6. Health Considerations

Make sure the children you are painting don't have any contagious illnesses or conditions that can be transferred to you or other kids. Also examine the kids' faces for wounds or sores, don't paint their faces if any of these things exist.

7.  Breaks

Take regular breaks in between face painting so you can avoid repetitive stress injuries. Every once in a while take a walk and stretch yourself out.

Children are more sensitive to everything, so you have to be extra careful with them. Take these precautions/safety tips into consideration when painting their faces.
