- 1). Make a note of the areas you want to add your motion detector lights. Consider adding them along walkways and at both the front and back doors (see Reference 1).
- 2). With the measuring tape, measure the areas you want to illuminate with the motion detector lights.
- 3). Choose lights with motion sensors with a narrow angle for entrances and exits and wide angles for yards (see Reference 2). Or buy lights with an adjustable angle and distance field for the motion detector and a sensor you can aim at a specific area (see Reference 1).
- 4). Look for motion detector lighting fixtures to match your home's decor (see Reference 2).
- 5). Opt for motion detector lights equipped with a photocell to turn the light off during the day (see Reference 1).
