- 1). Inspect the jack and make sure that all moving parts match correctly. Ensure that there are no visible cracks or bends on the handle or the rail. Stabilize the load to be lifted since the farm jack does not stabilize the load.
- 2). Place the jack on a solid, stable and level surface that is capable of supporting the weight of the jack, the operator and the equipment that is being lifted.
- 3). Pull the ratchet control lever---a crescent-shaped switch on the side of the runner---up until you hear the mechanism click, and the latch engages.
- 4). Place the jack's lift nose---a grooved platform on the bottom of the runner---completely under the object you are lifting.
- 5). Grip the handle and slowly pump it to raise the load.
- 6). Insert a grade 5, ½-inch bolt, not included, through the hole in the lift column---the steel rail---directly below the lifting mechanism once you have raised the load to the desired height.
- 7). Prevent shifting by inserting additional supports at the lift point to make sure the load is properly supported.
- 8). Lower the lift. First, put the handle into an upright position. Then, move the ratchet control lever to the down position. Slowly pump the handle up and down to lower the load and continue pumping the handle until the load is completely on the ground---the latch will click as the load is being lowered. Clean the jack and store it indoors.
