How to Convert RCA Plugs

    • 1). Identify the type of jack you want to connect the RCA plugs to. RCA plugs are used on cables that carry analog audio or video signals. Stereo mini-jacks and 1/4-inch stereo jacks are the most common types of jacks you'll want to connect RCA plugs to.

      An RCA-to-stereo mini-jack adapter

Purchase a cable or adapter that converts the RCA plugs on your cable to the correct type of plug. Remember that a stereo RCA cable has two plugs while a stereo mini-jack (like the headphone jack on an iPod, for example) only requires one plug. So the cable or adapter you'll use will have two inputs for the RCA plugs, and one plug to connect to your piece of gear. See the image for an example of a common adapter cable.

    • 3). Connect your RCA plugs to the adapter and connect to your gear to make the conversion.
