- According to an article published by Amish Heartland entitled "There's Time for Games for Amish Children," softball and volleyball are two of the favorite pastimes of the Amish people. Both young boys and girls participate in both of these sports. They spend a lot of time doing chores at home; however, when they do have some free moments, the children will play catch with one another. Adults will sometimes play croquet. They do not play games for competitive purposes, though, as the Amish believe that it is wrong to put one member of their society against another.
- The Amish people are involved in working around the farm, where there are a great many dangers present, particularly with the equipment. Safety games are an important part of life in Amish communities. Children learn how to be safe through games. For example, they will have a deck of small flashcards with pictures of people not being safe. The children are then asked how the situation could be made more safe.
- Since they do not have electricity to go on the Internet with or to read under lights in the evening, families will play board games together while they still have natural light coming in. Children will often spend their time playing games with dolls or wooden toys, just as little ones in other American households do. They will head to bed early, since everyone has to be up early in the morning to work.
- As with standard American culture, hobbies and games often overlap. Children will go skating during the winter months, and they may go fishing when it is in season as well. Living in rural areas often provides them with access to various lakes and ponds in the area. They also like to go horseback riding, and they all have easy accessibility to horses on their own farms.
