ADHD and Sugar - Can it Really Affect Your Child"s Behavior?

Sugar and salt are the great health enemies so it is no surprise that ADHD and sugar is a hot topic right now.
Food manufacturers have a lot to gain by advertising their so called healthy snack for kids and their wacky cereals.
Recent experiments show that giving ADHD kids sweet things did not really make a difference to their behavior.
The same cannot be said for food colourings and additives though.
These are now recognised as the real enemy, so to speak, and the USA is a bit behind Europe on this one.
The European Parliament now wants a warning box or label on all foods that are using these colourings to the effect that they can cause behavior disorders.
Some experts have claimed that sugar is addictive and you become dependent on it.
It is true that we suffer from withdrawal symptoms if we are denied our sugary snack so you can imagine how children react.
Try a few spoonfuls of sugar on an empty stomach to experience a sugar high! Sugar and ADHD are related in a certain sense when we consider that if we feed a kid a nice sugary cereal for breakfast pus a few doughnuts, he may well have a hyperactive high caused by the adrenaline rush caused by the rapid increase in the glucose levels.
When the effect wears off, there is a mood swing which may lead to lack of focus and lethargy and drowsiness.
Much better to have some carbohydrates plus some protein such as eggs, soya or cheese for breakfast.
ADHD and sugar may not be so closely related but avoiding excess sugar and especially food colourings, remembering that they very often come in the same packet, is the most sensible thing we can do to avoid any exacerbation of ADHD symptoms such as hyperactivity, distractability and lack of concentration.
In the case of doubt, it is better to avoid an ADHD and sugar combination.
Diet and nutrition are no cure for ADHD but reducing sugar, salt and processed foods are definitely the way to go as they are healthy choices to make.
There is a more pressing choice to make and that is how you are going to manage your child's behavior.
Cutting down on ADHD sugar is not going to solve that problem.
Following an ADHD behavior therapy course is going to help you though and there are effective courses which have helped parents to defeat verbal abuse and violence in the home.
The second problem is related to medication and there are countless stories of children and teenagers who have been kept in a comatose state for many years on Ritalin.
If you want to avoid all that, opt for a homeopathic remedy for ADHD as the ingredients are totally natural and help the body and mind to work in perfect balance.
There are no side effects and it is a much cheaper option.
