- Take advantage of the unique, glowing effect of black lighting by decorating with fluorescent items and items that come in white, which will glow when exposed to the black light. Hold your party at night or cover all the windows for the best effect. Use wide rolls of white paper, like those sold at craft stores, to cover the walls and table tops. Use fluorescent paints to draw your own welcome banner or decorative images or to provide your guests with a fun activity. Highlighters can also work for this. Invite your guests to use the highlighters or paint to write messages to the birthday boy, words of congratulations or whatever else is on their minds. - Invite your guests to wear a plain white shirt or provide them with simple T-shirts in white or fluorescent colors. Get creative and make games in which each team has a different color shirt. You can write on the shirts, using flourescent paint or highlighters for a fun way to make names stand out. Play a game in which each person has to guess what is written on his back by asking other guests yes or no questions.
- A black light offers unique activities and themes. Throw a highlighter party, in which each person must accumulate as many signatures as she can get on her white T-shirt in fluorescent ink. Offer brightly colored drinks, preferably in neon colors, such as fruit punch or apple martinis. Have an alien or space theme and provide your guests with glow sticks and glowing necklaces or bracelets. Or consider a hippie theme and use swirling 1960s images on your walls. Or provide guests with neon yarn, body paint, nail polish and other materials and offer rewards for the best costume made with the materials.
