Anyone that has school-aged children has more than likely by now had one war with head lice.
If not then count your blessings because most children end up with at least one case of them their during their school years.
Years back when children contracted head lice it was a matter of getting out the shears and off goes the hair.
Course for the girls this was not quite that drastic but they sure ended up with very short hair.
Those that had long golden locks that they wore to school one day, was a sure tell sign when they went back the next day with a short bob, that they had been stricken with head lice.
Often that child would be shunned and taunted by fellow classmates.
At least until a few of them ended up with them, as they are very contagious.
Although head lice are just as prominent today as they were back then and perhaps more so because there are larger schools and attendance.
They are usually treated with a chemical designed to kill the lice that can be purchased from the pharmacy.
This is usually quite effective but care must be taken to make sure all of the eggs are removed from the hair once the live lice have been killed.
If this is not done then within a few days a new batch has hatched.
Then the process of using the chemical treatment must begin again.
Many individuals are becoming concerned about applying chemicals to our bodies as we do inadvertently on a daily basis.
The concerns are leading people to find more natural alternatives for medical problems and this includes lice.
It has been reported that tea tree oil is very effective in the treating of lice.
Others feel that it is better as a deterrent as opposed to getting rid of them when one has them.
Another very effective treatment is oil and vinegar.
This may sound strange but it really does work well.
Warm oil is rubbed into the hair and lots of it.
Then the head in wrapped with a towel for a half hour.
Then the oil is shampooed out.
This will take some doing but it will come out.
Then the hair is rinsed with warm water and vinegar.
This is left on overnight.
After this though it is very important to comb the hair with a lice comb until all the eggs have been removed.
The next morning the hair can be shampooed as normal and inspected for any eggs, which must be removed.
