- 1). Disconnect the water hoses and drain tube from the washer. Unplug the washer and move it 2 feet away from the wall.
- 2). Access and remove the control panel screws, which are typically located between the edges of the control panel and the washer cabinet. You may have to remove the rubber edge pieces from the control panel to see them.
- 3). Pull up on the control panel to show the brass retaining clips. Pull the panel toward you, or away for some models, and up to release it from the clips.
- 4). Tilt the control panel back to reveal two brass spring clips on the washer cabinet. Remove those clips by sticking the flat-head screwdriver in each housing hole and pushing on it. The spring clip should pop up.
- 5). Locate the wiring harness connection to the washer top. It's typically a white plastic rectangular housing. Hold it firmly with your fingers and disconnect it.
- 6). Grab the washer cabinet, lift it up and pull it toward you. Lay the cabinet on its side.
- 7). Follow the wires underneath the cabinet to find the lid switch, which is usually located on the edge of the lid and held in place by two screws. Unscrew them and then remove the wires by pushing down on the wiring harness connecting point from Step 5.
- 8). Replace your lid switch by reversing the order of Steps 1 through 7.
