    Make a Scrolling Movie Text in Final Cut Pro 7

    • 1). Click the generator icon in the viewer window to open its menu (it looks like the letter "A" on a filmstrip). Select "Text > Scrolling Text."

    • 2). Click the "Control" tab in the viewer window. Type your text into the box in the "Text" row, pressing "Enter" for line breaks. Adjust the font, size and indent settings below the text box to achieve your desired look.

    • 3). Click the "Video" tab. Drag the blue in and out point bars to the desired length of your scrolling credit clip. Click on the preview image in the viewer panel and drag it down to the timeline to place the text in your video.

    • 1). Select the "Text Tool" in the tool panel. Click where you would like the text to begin on your composition. Type your text, pressing "Enter" for line breaks. Select "Window > Character" to open a panel that allows you to adjust the font, size and spacing.

    • 2). Select the text layer in the timeline panel. Press "P" to reveal the position property. Move the playhead to where the scrolling will begin. Press the clock icon to set the first animation keyframe. An animation keyframe marks the start or stop of a change in animation.

    • 3). Move the playhead to where the scrolling will end in the timeline. Select the "Selection Tool." Shift-click and drag the text up to its ending point. Pressing "Shift" will lock the X (side-to-side) position while letting you change the Y (up-and-down) position.

    • 4). Put the playhead at the beginning of the clip. Select "Composition > Preview > RAM Preview" to view your scrolling text.

    • 1). Select "Title > New Title > Default Roll." Write a name for the title in the box that pops up. Click "OK."

    • 2). Click inside the title box and type your text. Use the settings on the right to adjust font properties such as size and style. Adjust the duration of the scroll in the top right of the center column. When done, close the window. Your text clip will appear in the assets panel under the name you gave it.

    • 3). Click and drag the new clip you created to the timeline. Press "Space Bar" to preview the timing and look of your scrolling movie text.
