trace of suspended or string algae, a biological pond filter and a UVC or ultraviolet clarifier are the keys.
Usually these two pond equipments are sold and used separately in a pond; they can actually be combined into a single unit to maximize their function in the pond.
This will not only assure you that it will work at its best, this will also guarantee you to save a penny or two.
If in case you are not sure of the size of the pond equipment that you will purchase, the rule is to always go for the bigger ones.
In purchasing a combined UVC bio pond filter, the one with the higher wattage will have the higher chance of quickly destroying the developed algae in the pond.
However, there is but one down side in this idea and that is the increased possibility for green pond water to develop since the level of sunlight and the number of fish in the pond will upshot in insufficient UV clarification.
These two types of pond equipments are usually thought as the same but they are not.
A UV sterilizer, as the name suggests, sterilizes pond water by eliminating pathogens and other bacteria in the water.
It is also responsible for the destruction of green pond algae which is also done by a UV clarifier hence the reason why the two are normally mixed up.
A UV clarifier on the other hand does not sanitize the pond water and is really not designed to kill bacteria.
You will need a UV light with higher wattage if, - There are a lot of fish living in your pond.
- Your pond is placed in the area of the garden where it gets ample sunlight.
- The pond that you have is large and contains higher volume of water.
You will need a lower-powered UV light if, - Your pond is deep and contains water that is cooler than normal.
- Your pond is not large.
- There are only a few fish swimming in the pond water.
- Your pond is situated in a well-shaded place in the garden.
Most pond keepers out there know what UVCs do to pond.
However, what is known to them is just the general idea.
That is why you need to know the specific things that a UVC will and will not do to your pond so that you won't expect too much.
An Ultra Violet Clarifier will...
- Obliterate existing green algae in once directly exposed to UV light.
- Effectively prevent the rise of algae bloom if the right size is installed in the pond.
- Result to clear pond water if installed and used properly.
- Definitely control pond algae growth.
On the other hand, a UVC will not...
- Be able to destroy algae such as blanket weed which are not directly exposed to UV light.
- Sterilize pond water and destroy bacteria and pathogens.
- Hamper the effects of medicated pond treatments.
- Cause any harm to the fish, plants and beneficial bacteria that live in the pond.
