- Glittery stars are easy to make and can be hung anywhere, adding sparkle to any party. Cut the stars out of thick white paper such as poster board; use stars of different sizes for more visual interest. Punch a hole in the top of each star. Spread newspaper over a table and place the stars on top. Use a paintbrush to paint a thin layer of glue over one side of each star, then sprinkle on glitter. When they are dry, shake off any excess glitter and repeat with the other side. Tie loops of ribbon through the holes and hang the stars.
- Create your own star-punched luminaries to decorate tables with. Start with glass candle holders and votive candles. Buy sheets of decorative paper, such as scrapbook paper. Wrap a sheet of paper into a cylinder shape around the candle holder and trim the paper so that it is the same height as the vase. Take the paper off and use a star hole punch to create star-shaped holes in the paper; you can also use a regular hole punch to create your own star shapes in the paper. Wrap the paper around the glass again and tape the ends together. When lit, the candle's light will shine through the stars.
- Hang star wreaths on the room's doors, walls and in the windows. Cut out paper stars in various sizes, from 1 inch to 5 inches wide, and attach them to a wire or foam wreath ring. Glue on the larger stars first, then attach smaller ones on top. You may even be able to find star-shaped wreath rings at a craft store. Wrap twine or twinkle lights around the wreath, or string flower blooms onto a piece of floral wire and wrap the wire gently around the wreath.
- Make freestanding paper stars by cutting out three stars of the same shape. Fold two of the stars in half from the tip of the star to the bottom and unfold them. Create a sandwich with the three stars, with the creased stars on the outside and the flat star in the middle. Staple the stars together on the creases, then set them up on a table. You can also punch a hole in the top of the paper and hang the stars from the ceiling.
