How to Make a Ribbon Pomander Centerpiece

    Ribbon Pomander

    • 1). Cut ribbon into 4-inch strips. Choose ribbon in your wedding colors and use different widths, textures and patterns for visual interest. One 5-inch foam ball will require approximately 100 feet of ribbon. The size of the foam ball used is based upon personal preference.

    • 2). Place the two ends of each strip of ribbon together to form a circle and insert two dressmaker pins through the overlapping ends.

    • 3). Stick the dressmaker pins into the foam ball to secure the ribbon loop. Continue to form ribbon loops and attach them until the ball is completely covered. Place the loops close together to create a tighter look. Mix and match colors and widths of ribbon.

    • 1). Set the ribbon pomander on top of a champagne or wine glass. An idea is to turn the glass upside down. Place a single rose or a small LED candle inside the glass. Tie a complementary bow around the stem of the glass and wrap it with a thin garland of ivy.

    • 2). Situate the ribbon pomander on top of a glass vase. Place colorful beads, marbles, river rock, beans, confetti or flower petals inside of the vase. Surround the vase with rose petals or greenery. Alternatively, place the pomander on a beach or garden pail.

    • 3). Wrap a long piece of fishing line around the pomander and tie it at the top. Put small strips of tape or dabs of glue on the fishing line to secure it to the ball. Hang the ribbon pomander ball from an ornament hanger. Alternatively, hang it from the ceiling so that the bottom of the ball is approximately 6 inches away from the table.

    • 4). Place a large ribbon pomander on top of a raised serving plate. Surround the plate with smaller balls. Another idea is to just lay various sizes of pomander balls around the table.

    • 5). Stick one end of a branch or a wooden dowel through the ribbon pomander and then place it in a terracotta pot full of sand, river rock or beads to create a topiary. Use as many pomander balls as desired.
