Building Kitchen Cabinet Doors

    • 1). Measure the kitchen cabinets' height and width. If you have the old kitchen cabinets and the size of those are ideal, then simply measure one of the cabinet door's height and width. Write the measurements down.

    • 2). Draw the outline of the new cabinet doors on the plywood sheet using the measurements created in step 1. Draw the amount of cabinet doors required for the kitchen.

    • 3). Cut each of the cabinet doors out using the table saw.

    • 4). Sandpaper the edges and surfaces of each cabinet door to remove any splinters.

    • 5). Paint or stain the cabinet doors as desired. While some enjoy a simple brown cabinet door, others make patterns or detailed designs, such as vines or flowers. Use a solid color as a base before decorating the cabinet doors with acrylic paints for detailed cabinet doors. Let the doors dry before continuing.

    • 6). Take one cabinet door at a time and line it up to the existing kitchen shelving unit structure. Line it up where it will be installed. Make two small marks on the cabinet door to indicate where the hinges will be installed. Ensure the hinges do not interfere with existing shelves in the pre-existing unit.

    • 7). Install the handle of choice by placing it on the cabinet door where you want it to be. Make two small marks where the handle will be attached with screws.

    • 8). Drill the two small holes completely through the plywood. Clean up any drilling residue with a damp cloth. Line the door handle over the two holes and attach it with the one-inch long screws. Insert the screws from the inside of the door, so they connect with the handle.

    • 9). Line two hinges up to the marks made in the previous step and attach each of them with screws and a screwdriver. Use the 1/2-inch screws so the screws do not go through the plywood.

Line the cabinet door up to the kitchen shelving unit once again and attach the hinges to the inside of the cabinet using the 1/2-inch screws and a screwdriver. Once secured, try to open and close the cabinet door.
