How to Use Forklift Batteries

    • 1). Access the battery at the rear of the forklift and check the LED charging display on the top of the unit. Ensure that the battery isn't showing less than an 80 percent charge. Below that level, it's time to charge the battery.

    • 2). Power off the forklift and allow the machine to cool.

    • 3). Unscrew the fill cap, located in the center of the top of the unit, and check to see if the water is low. Since forklifts use "wet" batteries, the water needs to be refilled periodically if the battery is relatively new. If the water is low, fill it to the "Fill" line.

    • 4). Take the color-coded charger leads and connect them to the terminals on the top of the battery.

    • 5). Wait for the meter on the battery charger to indicate that the battery is charged. Once the battery is charged, remove the leads.
