Parishath Thampuran Museum
Parishath Thampuran Museum is located in Cochin and it is famous for traditional architectural style of Kerala and Dutch. It is one of the archaeological museums of Kerala. The museum holds a large collection of paintings, coins and sculptures. The sculptures present in the museum are made up of plaster of Paris and stone. Paintings depict ancient monuments and memories of royal families. Most of the displays at this place belong to the royal families of Kochi. Some of the modern paintings of Indian artists are also displayed at the museum.
All the collections belong to 19th century and each and every item displayed are very captivating and interesting. Photographs are allowed inside the museum and prominent fee for the camera have to be paid at the counter.
History of the museum
This venue was used as living space for the guests of royal family. Sometimes official ceremonies and meetings are also conducted in this place. This venue is used as a guest house as well as durbar hall. The museum was named after the last ruler of Kochi, Rama Varma Pareekshith Thampuran.
Now, the museum is maintained by the state archaeological department and is located on Durbar Hall road.
How to reach
Kochi is well connected by roadways and the KSRTC bus terminal is located very close to the railway junction. Private bus operators are available from High Court junction, Ernakulam south and Kaloor. Online booking of bus tickets services are offered by the bus operators so booking a bus ticket is not a big hassle for the tourists.
Cochin International Airport is about 25 kms from the city on the NH-47 highway. Kochi has three rail terminals located at Ernakulam Town, Ernakulam Junction and Cochin Harbour Terminus.
Information to the tourists
The museum is opened for the public from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm and in the afternoon it is opened from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The museum is closed on Mondays and public holidays. It is located adjacent to the Shiva temple in Ernakulam District. The best time to visit the museum would be from the month of September to March because during that time the climatic condition will be cool and pleasant.
