Termite fumigation entails the removal and killing of termites that are destroying the wooden structure of a home. The homeowner who is having this process done will need to take some steps in order to prepare for the procedure. Making the process go as quickly as possible only takes a little effort and some strategic planning.
At Accurate termite control, we do our best to make the termite fumigation process fast and easy for our clients. One of the first things that the homeowner will need to do is remove anything that is living from the property. This means all pets (including fish), all people, and plants. One will also need to remove all food products that are not factory sealed. The poisons used to kill the termites will kill animals, and make food harmful for ingestion so it is critical to remove them completely from a home before the fumigation process begins.
One will also need to remove mattresses and any other product that will come into contact with skin, and children. Remember that the termite fumigation gas can harm any living thing so anything that would be ingested or come in contact with people or animals must be covered, removed, or thrown out.
The grounds around the home to be fumigated will also need to be prepped for the fumigation process. There must be one foot (twelve inches) clearance from the edges of the home in order for the tent to be properly placed. All decorative ricks, gravel, plants and mulch must be raked away from the perimeter of the home. If there are fences around the home, they must also be moved back twelve inches, unless there is a gate that can be left open to compensate for the one foot distance.
For effective termite fumigation to take place, a homeowner must remember to shut off all utilities in the property. Gas services can prove to be quite explosive and dangerous if left on while the fumigation process is proceeding. Make sure that all pilot lights on water heaters, stoves and heaters are extinguished ort turned off. The homeowner will also need to make sure that the company doing the fumigation has a set of keys for the home. This is to assure that the extermination company can have access to areas like crawl spaces, basements, and attics.
Making sure the fumigation process goes smoothly is the responsibility of both a homeowner and the company doing the fumigation. With proper planning and a little effort, the process can be done quickly and the home owner can be back in their pest-free home in no time.
