- 1). Shut down all applications and turn off the laptop. Remove all cords from the laptop and disconnect the power source.
- 2). Flip the laptop over and find the long thin battery compartment at the top of the machine. Side the latch to release the battery and remove it from the laptop.
- 3). Touch an unpainted piece of metal to remove the static electricity from your clothes and body.
- 4). Find the rectangular compartment at the bottom of the laptop. Unfasten the two screws at the top of the compartment. Lift the compartment cover off the laptop. Slide the hard drive to the right and lift up on it.
- 5). Remove the hard drive from the metal casing. Insert the new hard drive into the metal casing. Put the unit back in the laptop and slide it to the left, connecting it to the system board. Put the lid back on the laptop and fasten the two screws.
- 6). Insert the battery and reconnect all of the devices and the power cord if needed.
- 7). Turn on the laptop and insert the Windows Recovery CD that came with your system. Restart the computer and follow the prompts and instructions to reinstall your operating system.
