In this article I share 6 steps to personal freedom & help you realize there is more to life than simply fitting in.
If you have forgotten how to take control of your life and are not doing the things you love but instead simply fitting into what's normal for many, I'm here to share reasons why this does not have to be the case.
Step 1.
Self Development Self help, self growth, personal growth or development, call it what you will but it requires your attention if you seek personal freedom.
It means to help or improve yourself without relying on anyone else.
Instead of 'going along with it all' you need to realise where you want to go in life to achieve the freedom you seek, then begin to take on the role of learning so you become more skilled at whatever you seek to do.
The main point here is that you are consciously moving forward to your end goal.
· Take courses · Read books · Talk to others Whatever form of self development you need to achieve personal freedom is paramount to you success.
Step 2.
Know Yourself We often go through life on auto pilot doing mundane things like wake up go to work, home TV, bed! We put aside our dreams and goals and make up excuses for why they cannot be achieved.
We let fear take over and put ourselves in a very small box that makes us somewhat comfortable but in reality we are not really living.
Ask yourself these questions: Who am I? What do I stand for? What don't I stand for? What do I really want to do with my life? Answering these questions deeply and honestly may change everything for you at the least give you some awareness as to who you really are.
Step 3.
Your Values Values are the driving force behind why you do what you do.
So knowing & prioritizing your values will allow you to make decisions that lead you in the direction you want to go.
Examples of values are: Success Freedom Health Wealth Adventure For this part of the process you will need to identify your values then reassess areas of your life to see if the things you currently do align with your current values, if not then a plan of action will be needed.
For example if you value freedom and family but are working 60 hours a week then you will be misaligned with what you truly want.
Step 4.
Change Your Reactions "Nothing is good nor bad its our thinking which makes it so" - Hamlet.
You are in control of your reactions, although you are not in control of what may happen sometimes.
When you change your reactions in situations by thinking consciously about how you are going to react, allows you to take responsibility and be in control of yourself.
Where you would usually get angry or upset and react out of control in some cases, you now don't take it personal and can deal with situations in a manner that allows you to move towards personal freedom.
Step 5.
Do Your Best In all you do, do your best.
If you're not doing your best each day, then you will be unhappy and feel guilty for not getting things done.
But doing your best and knowing you did all you can, will allow you to feel satisfied.
Here's the deal, you can't do more than your best, your best is all there is.
6.
Find and Do Work You Love We are so used to staying comfortable and never really fulfilling our dreams and goals.
If you seek personal freedom but are not doing what you love, it's time to start looking.
Its not easy, especially if you don't like change.
None the less personal freedom requires you doing what you are passionate about.
Think about waking up each day to work you love, wouldn't it feel more like play? I have found that incorporating the above 6 steps into my own life I am truly happy and have found some of life little secrets along the way as well as personal freedom! You can too.
