How to Test a Triac Optocoupler Circuit

    • 1). Access the Optocoupler circuit by removing the housing from the motherboard to which the circuit is attached.

    • 2). Locate the circuit on the board. It can be identified as a rectangular circuit with three or four pins on each side.

    • 3). Power on your digital multimeter and turn the dial to "V" so that it reads in volts.

    • 4). Insert the red lead into the "+" port on the multimeter and the black lead into the "-" port on the multimeter.

    • 5). Touch the red lead to one of the pins on the optocoupler.

    • 6). Touch the black lead to a non-electric surface. This will ground it.
