- 1). Choose an official red flower to take center-stage at your wedding. Traditional red picks include roses, tulips, carnations and poinsettias (for winter weddings)--each of which will connote something different to your guests (see Tips). Find a flower that matches your personality and that can be used as a foundation to guide the rest of your wedding planning.
- 2). Decide what additional flowers, if any, will be used in the various flower arrangements you intend to display. Having a simple red-rose arrangement will not change the color dynamics, but having a diverse collection can affect the color palette and introduce other colors and shades to be used as accents in the decoration process. Note any additional colors you wish to be prominently featured.
- 3). Acquire red accents for your bridesmaids to wear. Since it might be overkill to have each of them wear completely red dresses, consider having the bridesmaids wear a dark color, perhaps black, for the dress and accent with red accessories such as ruby-like necklaces, matching sashes that can be fastened at the waist, and red shoes.
- 4). Prepare the menu. Strawberries are an obvious and elegant choice to complement the other items that will be offered. Consider displaying a chocolate fountain for guests to drizzle the delectable red fruits. You can also incorporate the use of cherries, tomatoes and/or red chilies throughout the menu to add to the food's color coordination.
- 5). Continue to decorate the wedding venue using your chosen flower and color palette. If you prefer avoiding all real flowers, consider using silk varieties and introducing complementary fabrics and materials. Or display black-and-white pictures of the couple in red frames; immerse red, heart-shaped floating candles into water-filled glass bowls; and fill various-sized jars with cinnamon hearts and red gummy candies.
