- 1). Wash the affected skin with warm water and gently pat dry with a towel. Apply a dime-size amount of benzoyl peroxide to the affected area and rub gently into the skin. Do not rinse off.
- 2). Apply benzoyl peroxide to the skin one to two times daily for approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
- 3). Watch for side effects, such as skin dryness, peeling, blistering, swelling, burning and tingling. Avoid using cosmetics, medicated soaps and sunlamps, since they can irritate the skin. If side effects or irritations occur, discontinue using benzoyl peroxide and contact a dermatologist or primary care physician.
