Top 5 Best Money Resourses for College Students

I get asked a lot by students how I was able to go through college without going into debt. Most of the time I can quickly give them outline of how I was able to do it but there are lot of times that I know things do not click and I would love to sit down and talk to them for the next couple hours so they understand how to control their money. Since I can't I usually point them to a couple different resources so they can look up the information and really dig deep into a financial plan. Here are a list of my top five resources for college students.

1. Dave Ramsey

Dave has been through it all and has helped millions of people get out of debt with his classes and guides. He has a plan of 7 steps that will help you get out of debt and keep you out of debt. Even though a college student may not have debt the same principals Dave teaches and be used to KEEP you out of debt. Our church teaches classes 2 or 3 times a year that is based on Dave's courses. Check out your local churches and see if they put on Dave's classes. Dave also have some great books that you can pick up on amazon.

2. The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner

I was given this book when I was a freshman in college when I went to go open a loan. The man that gave me the book knew that I was passionate about staying out of debt and so he gave me this book and told me to think about if I really wanted to get a loan after I read it. After reading the book I knew that I had a lot of work to do to buy a house but it also got me thinking about how to save money for a down payment on a house, how to save money for a newer car, and how to pay for college. This book is geared to someone that is buying a house but the concepts apply just as well for people that are trying to leverage their money to make more money and stay out of debt by getting loans or getting more credit cards.

3. Instructables http://www.instructables.com/

If you are looking to save money you need to start learning how to do some things yourself. When I found instructables I realized that I could save so much money (and start making money) by following some guides that people had already wrote. There are TONS of cool projects that you can do that will help you save money and also help the environment as well. Take a look and you will be impressed.

4. E-meals

My wife and I were wasting a lot of money on groceries when we first got married. I was still in school but I still wanted to go out and eat because it was quick and easy. I didnt think that we had time to cook and go shopping for groceries all the time. Emeals came along and we never looked back. They give you a complete meal list and what things you need to buy to make them. Some stores even have the aisles on the print out. This is a super quick and easy way to save money right away!

5. SMART Friends

Probably the best thing you can do is have people that will keep you on track and wants to see you reach your goals. Having friends that will help you stay on track and ask you those "Do you really want to buy that?" questions are great to have around to keep you accountable. Start talking to your friends about money!!! Work at this together with them. You both will be happier!!!
