- 1). Determine what type of ports your TV has. Locate them on your TV and see if it is marked "HDMI Out," "Cable/Coaxial Out," or a 3.5 mm "Audio Out." A 3.5 mm audio out port will look like the MP3 player port used for headphones.
- 2). Purchase the necessary cable. The types of ports the TV has will determine the type of cable that needs to be purchased. All of the cables can be purchased at most electronic and stereo stores. Most are available for a fairly low price; coaxial and 3.5mm cables should be under $5, while HDMI cables can be under $20.
- 3). Connect the cable to the TV. This should be a matter of simply plugging in the cable. The coaxial cable is an exception and this will need to be screwed in.
- 4). Connect the other end of the cable to the device receiving the audio. This will likely be a home theater system. Connect the HDMI cable to the "HDMI In" port. Connect the coaxial to the "Cable/Coaxial In." The receiver might also have a 3.5mm in, in that case connect it. The 3.5mm cable can be connected to a computer's "Line In" as well.
