HEPA is not a brand name of any product, but a technology used in manufacturing of the home cleaning products. It stands for High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor (HEPA). This technology is used in the manufacturing of air purifiers, air cleaners and vacuum cleaners etc. These filters are effective in making the air pure up to 99.97 % and filters the air particles as minute as 0.3 microns.
They are effective in removing and filtering the smallest particles like smoke, animal dander, dust, bacteria's, viruses etc. It is recommended that people suffering from breathing problems, chemical sensitivity or allergies use the air purifiers based on the HEPA technology. The basic function of these cleaners is to purify the air by filtering the toxic particles through the HEPA Air Filters and there by releasing fresh and pure air for breathing. The more the air passes through the HEPA filters more pure it becomes thus making it purest and safe to breathe.
It is specially recommended in the houses that have pregnant women, small children, babies, elder people to have these air purifiers fitted in their homes, as they are the people who are sensitive to unhygienic or polluted air. HEPA air cleaners/ purifiers will clean one room in the range more effectively and purely and not other areas/ rooms of the house or office which come in the range of these purifiers, for e.g. if you have fitted a HEPA technology air purifier in your bedroom, it will clean the area of the bedroom and not any other rooms. Hepa air purifiers are unable to trap air beyond the vicinity of walls.
These HEPA air cleaners are suitable for home offices and bedrooms or the living rooms. Well-known companies like EZ air or Austin Air manufacture their products by using this technology. Machines built with this technology normally provide fifteen exchanges of air every one hour in a standard sized room or bedroom and around eight air exchanges every hour in an area measuring 1000 sq. ft. The low quality air purifiers with HEPA technology will provide not more than two to four air exchanges per hour in a standard sized bedroom /room. The lower quality brands of these air purifiers are not effective in large sized bedrooms or other rooms and will not make any difference in the quality of the air.
Some HEPA technology air purifiers are available with the EGF (Enhanced Germ Filtration) system or ultra violet system. The machines are medically graded and are equipped with advance technologies, are efficient in destroying the impurities like pet dander, pollen, viruses and any other impurities that might trigger the chances of breathing disorders, at quicker and a faster rate.
The filters of the higher range of these purifiers contain Zeolite and activated blends that work effectively in absorbing the chemicals or the gases released in the office indoor or in homes. The filters of the lower range of these purifiers, which are built with HEPA technology, are just covered with carbon dust come with a very short period of life/ usage and are not effective against cleaning and purifying of the air.
It is recommended to be very cautious while purchasing the products/ purifiers based on HEPA technologies and take a careful step towards the good health of your family.
