Krylon Outdoor Patio Ideas

    • Transform your patio with Krylon spray paint.patio image by fotogis?¡§le from Fotolia.com

If you've got a back yard full of dingy white or staid green plastic furniture, there's no need to replace them with expensive new ones when you can transform them with a couple of cans of Krylon paint. Krylon is an aerosol spray formulated specifically for use on plastics, which previously weren't able to hold standard paints very long. Krylon sticks to the plastic coating, giving your furniture an upgrade within minutes. Krylon paints are available at hardware stores and craft centers in almost every color. Created tough enough to withstand year-round temperature and weather, Krylon paint can help your outdoor patio become an artistic oasis.

    Seeing Stars

    • With a few cans of Krylon, you can turn your outdoor patio into a replica of the night sky, even in broad daylight. The small foil stars you may have used on your kids' chore charts come in handy for this project. For each piece of outdoor furniture, you'll need two cans of Krylon---a white or yellow and a dark color such as blue or purple. (For much larger pieces of furniture, such as plastic benches or outdoor shelving units, try two cans of each color; anything you don't open may be returned or saved for the next project.)

Because Krylon can be messy, be sure to designate an area of the grass for spray painting, not your porch or floor. Once you've cleaned and dried the first item, spray it entirely with the white/light paint color. If possible, spray underneath the item or wait till the top side dries, then turn it over to get the underside. While that dries, spray any other pieces of furniture. After the items dry, cover them with the foil star stickers; create designs like the constellations or just sprinkle stickers all over. Once you've completed placing the stickers, spray a coating of the dark paint covering the chairs/tables entirely and let dry. After they've finished drying, you can give your kids the task of removing the star stickers; as they peel them off, the white paint will be revealed in a star shape against the dark background.

    Animal Instincts

    • Your outdoor patio can become your own little zoo with a few cans of Krylon, a couple of household supplies and some old plastic furniture. After cleaning off a picnic table, use white Krylon paint all over the top and sides. While that dries, apply black spray paint to a couple of plastic chairs and brown Krylon on some others. After everything dries, add long stripes of duct tape down the entire length of the table (and benches if attached). Let kids get creative sticking old yard-sale dot stickers all the black chairs and cutting blob shapes out of duct tape and sticking them on the brown chairs. Taking care to stand downstream of the aerosol spray, coat the table in black paint, the chairs with the dots in red and the chairs with the duct tape in brown. Kids can make a contest of peeling off the most duct tape and dots when the paint dries, revealing a zebra table and ladybug and leopard print chairs.

    Ambiance

    • You may be familiar with aromatherapy, which is the practice of using scents to relax or invigorate your senses, but Krylon wants to enhance your outdoor ambiance with color therapy. The paint company suggests coordinating your outdoor furniture with combinations of its colors to make you feel like royalty (such as its gold, white and rich plum paints) or rev up your excitement engines (with emerald green, sun yellow and pumpkin orange). In fact, researchers at Missouri Western State University cite that by gazing at a blue color, blood pressure drops and people feel calmer. If you're interested in conveying extravagance and royalty, you may want to paint your outdoor patio furnishings with one of Krylon's purple hues.
