- 1). Take off the old handle set from the front door, being sure to put on work gloves. Remove the grip and deadbolt components, latches and strike plates using a Phillips screwdriver.
- 2). Measure the distance between the centers of the deadbolt and door knob holes using the tape measure.
- 3). Tape the template that came with the kit to your front door. Follow the instructions on the template for proper placement. Confirm that your new handle set requires the same distance between the deadbolt and knob in order to prevent you from having to drill new holes in your door and door frame.
- 4). Make any additional holes in the door and door frame, if necessary. Take off the template when you are done.
- 5). Slide the latch and attached latch plate flush against the edge of the door. Face the sloped side of the latch towards the door frame. Locate the provided screws and secure the plate in place using the screwdriver.
- 6). Insert the handle set into the exterior holes on the front door. Do not secure the handle or deadbolt lock pieces.
- 7). Hold the exterior side of the handle set firmly and slide the interior side of the set into place. Match the connecting rods for the handle and locks. Push until all parts of the handle set are flush against the door. Secure the parts in place with the screws.
- 8). Insert key into deadbolt and make sure it works. Open and close door to confirm you aligned the parts correctly.
