Getting away from your daily routine and spending a romantic weekend with your significant other can be good for you and your relationship. Yet many couples are finding this harder to do because of financial issues. With some simple tips, you can easily afford a romantic getaway. - By planning ahead, you will have a better chance of finding a good price for the options you want.
Generally, prices are released about six months before and the best prices are usually found about three to four months before.
With websites such as Orbitz and Expedia you can compare prices for multiple dates to find the best prices. If you know that September is a good time to go, for example, simply look throughout the month to find the best price. - A getaway is often more affordable if you drive rather than buy train or plane tickets.
Look for interesting places or things to do within a one- to two-hour drive from your home. You can stay overnight or save turn it into a day trip. Often, you'll find unexpected experiences within a short drive.
To find out what's in your area, contact the chamber of commerce or visitors bureau of cities in the area. They will have information about local hotels, activities and historic sites. - Rural areas are often cheaper than big cities. A cabin in Wyoming or a bed and breakfast in Maine, for example, can be found for a fraction of the price of a hotel in Boston or Seattle. Look for areas with lots of outdoor activities for little to no cost to keep prices down.
- When choosing lodging, aim for something with at least a small kitchen. The savings of cooking your own meals will offset the slightly higher rental cost. Instead of eating at a restaurant, make a trip to a local grocer.
Bed and breakfasts normally provide at least one meal per day with your room, usually breakfast. Some include multiple meals. - Many websites, such as Orbitz, Travelocity, and Expedia, package flights, hotels and car rentals. Buying a package deal can often be cheaper as these companies get a discount from the companies.
However, don't simply rely on the packages listed. Package deals often focus on large airlines and hotel chains, leaving out regional airlines, like CapeAir in New England, and family owned hotels. Be sure to check several travel sites for the lowest price. Travel guides usually include information about smaller hotels and regional airlines. - For most places, going off-season can save money and avoid crowds. While visiting a summer tourist area during the winter may not sound appealing, many of the same activities are available. An off-season weekend in Southern California, for example, can mean trips to the beach and theme parks without the crowds.
Renting a cabin in Yellowstone National Park during their off season--late spring and early fall---is cheaper than during summer months. They are closed to the public from November to April.
