How to Make a Simple 7up Pound Cake

    • 1). Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 2). Combine 1 cup butter, 1/2 cup shortening and 3 cups sugar in a large mixing bowl.

    • 3). Beat the ingredients together with an electric mixer until it takes on a light, fluffy texture.

    • 4). Beat five large eggs in a separate mixing bowl with a fork until the yolk and whites are blended.

    • 5). Add the eggs to the butter and sugar mixture and beat thoroughly with the electric mixer.

    • 6). Combine 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp. salt and 1 cup 7 Up in a separate mixing bowl. Mix together with a spoon, smoothing away any clumps in the flour.

    • 7). Add 1 1/2 tsp. lemon extract, 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract, 1/2 tsp. almond extract to the flour and 7 Up mixture. Mix the ingredients well with a spoon.

    • 8). Add the flour and extract mixture to the butter, sugar and eggs. Beat ingredients together with the electric mixer.

    • 9). Apply 2 tbsp. softened butter to the inside of a 10-inch tube pan with a pastry brush. Sprinkle 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour on the buttered surface.

      Pour the batter into the greased tube pan and bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes.

      Allow the baked pound cake to cool for 30 minutes.

      Combine 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar with 2 tbsp. 7 Up in a small mixing bowl. Stir the ingredients together until it forms a smooth glaze.

      Pour the glaze over the cooled cake.
